“Using an expression that can be correctly applied to very few artists, Fernando Leal Audirac may be described as a painter in a total sense. In fact, Leal Audirac deliberately assigns to painting all the complexity and the pregnancy of the ‘cerebral element’ that Leonardo da Vinci recognized in it: this has all the plenitude of a profoundly modern discourse as far as its lexis and syntax are concerned, but it is capable of conquering for itself the remarkable legacy of the classical tradition…” Martina Corgnati.
To Leal Audirac (1958 -), original and eclectic figure in the contemporary art scene, is dedicated this important monograph, unique in its kind, that invites us to a journey throughout the last ten years of the artist’s oeuvre, his " Milan season". The review, with an introductory comprehensive study by Martina Corgnati, presents us - in more than 400 images - the artistic and intellectual research of Leal Audirac, refined and skillfull artist, who does not fear to measure himself with the most varied and ancient painterly techniques, in order to explore its secrets, revisited and upgraded within a contemporary and very intimate code of communication. Painter, designer, etcher, fresco-painter, Leal Audirac moves along on an extremely personal path, that renders him immune from easy labeling. The artist, and with him the spectator, accomplishes a mythical travel of recognition of the human mind, of its restlessness and contradictions, analyzed with an attentive sight, sometimes ironic, but always fascinated.
The book will be presented by Marc Dachy, director of the art-magazine Luna-Park. Winner in 1990 of the Grand Prix du livre d’art for his book Journal du Mouvement Dada, published by Skira in 1989. Major authority in Dada, has published Kurt Schwitters’ writings presenting them for the French public. He has translated and edited many authors, such as: John Cage, Gertrude Stein, La Monte Young, etc.. Mr. Dachy has published Dada au Japon and is currently preparing an international edition of the Dada Movement archives.
Fernando Leal Audirac will also participate.
